Kola’s active principals that have an energizing and stimulating effect

The Kola tree (Cola acuminata) is an evergreen plant from the Sterculiaceae family, native to the tropical forests of West Africa. The parts used in herbal medicine are the nuts (seed cotyledons) which have a high content of caffeine and polyphenols like catechol, epicatechin, and proanthocyanidins. Kola nuts are also used as an aroma in the original Coca-Cola drink formula. Some African peoples chew the fresh nut pulp in order to feel energized and excited. Kola nuts have a tonic effect on the nerves during periods of physical and mental stress and stimulate the metabolism.
