Hop

The Hop (Humulus lupulus L.) is a flowering plant (Angiosperma) that belongs to the Cannabaceae family. It grows wild on the banks of streams and along hedges and in an altitude of up to 1200 meters; It is commonly found in northern Italy. It started to get cultivated at the beginning of the ninth century in Germany, however, wild hops were already being used in prehistoric times. It is a perennial plant with climbing stems that can reach up to 7 meters in height. The leaves are heart-shaped. The female flowers produce a yellowish substance with a bitter taste, which is used for brewing beer, and gives it its special aroma. Hops are used in herbal medicine because they promote relaxation and sleep during times of stress. It has antioxidant properties and fights menopausal symptoms.
