ESI: we offset our emissions through certified carbon credits.

During 2026, following the Carbon Footprint assessment carried out in 2025, we implemented a CO₂ emissions offsetting project by purchasing and retiring 2,100 certified carbon credits.

What are carbon credits?

A carbon credit represents one metric tonne of CO₂ equivalent (CO₂e) that has been avoided, reduced, or removed through certified projects. Purchasing carbon credits is a voluntary mechanism that supports projects delivering environmental and social benefits, complementing an organization's efforts to monitor and reduce its own greenhouse gas emissions.

The offsetting initiative supports two certified environmental and social impact projects under the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS):

Progetto INDIA COOK 1024x768 425a78c6 cfaa 4c5b a6cf cc27dd14abc9

The India Cookstoves project, which accounts for 70% of the carbon credits purchased, involves the distribution of 500,000 energy-efficient cookstoves to rural communities in the state of Madhya Pradesh, India. Prior to the project's implementation, these low-income and marginalized communities traditionally cooked over open fires, relying on firewood and charcoal, which contributed to indoor air pollution and forest degradation.

Progetto RIMBA RAYA 1024x768 dad199a7 11fd 4f84 82e2 6a806a5eadd2

The Rimba Raya project in Indonesia, which is associated with the remaining 30% of the carbon credits purchased, is dedicated to the conservation of 65,000 hectares of tropical peat swamp forest and the protection of biodiversity, helping preserve the habitat of more than 100,000 endangered orangutans. The project supports 2,500 local families, improving their livelihoods through funding generated by the sale of carbon credits.

The journey is long and challenging, but we believe that every positive contribution can make a meaningful difference to the future of our planet.
