It is obtained from the leaves of Melaleuca leucadendron, known as White Tea Tree, a plant of the Mirtaceae family. It is a large evergreen tree up to 25 meters tall, with a thick, spongy, and whitish bark. It is widespread in Australia and the Malay Archipelago, where it is known by the name Kayuputih, white tree, due to the light color of its bark.
