Vitamin B6 can be in the form of pyridoxine, pyridoxal or pyridoxamine, which are three pyridine derivatives. It was discovered in 1935 as a factor that is able prevent pellagra in rats. It is sometimes referred to as Vitamin Y and is present in both vegetables and in animal products. Vitamin B6 contributes to normal energy levels, normal nervous system functioning, normal protein and glycogen metabolism levels, normal psychological functioning, normal red blood cell formation, normal immune system functioning; it helps to reduce tiredness and fatigue and regulates hormonal activity.
