Keratin: Protein for Hair and Nails
Keratin (which comes from the greek word "Keratos" = horn) is a filamentous protein that is rich in sulfur produced by keratinocytes. It’s present throughout the animal kingdom and in humans and is the main constituent of hair and nails.
Although it contains many different types of amino acids, it is particularly rich in cysteine, an amino acid sulphide.
