Rhamnus Alpina

Rhamnus Alpina (Rhamnus alpinus) is a small shrub that belongs to the Rhamnaceae family and can reach a maximum 2-3 meters in height. It grows in Southern and Southeastern Europe, from the Pyrenees to the Balkan Peninsula, the Caucasus and in North Africa. It’s present in Italy in the western Alps, the Apennines and in Sardinia. It usually grows on rocky slopes, especially where there’s limestone and is able to settle in hostile environments where it’s almost impossible for other forms of life to survive. The bark is used in herbal medicine to help intestinal transit regularity and digestive function.
