Wintergreen (essential oil)

Gaultheria procumbens is a genus of angiosperm plants of the Ericaceae family. This evergreen shrub can be up to 10-15 cm tall, and its leaves have a typical camphor smell. The name Gaultheria is a tribute to the French naturalist Gaulthier. Procumbens, which means "crawling on the ground", refers to the development of the plant. The essential oil is obtained from the leaves, which were used by Native Americans to soothe pain and to aid breathing.
