Saw Palmetto- Serenoa or Florida Palmetto

Saw palmetto (Serenoa repens) is a plant of the Arecaeae family, the only species of the genus Serenoa. It is endemic in south-east United States, especially along the coast of the Atlantic Ocean and southern Arkansas. It grows in thick woods near the coast and in the undergrowth of deciduous trees and pine trees. It is a fan palm with a stem that reaches up to 2-4 meters high. The flowers are yellowish-white, the fruit is a blackish-brown color with a fleshy texture and is an important source of food for wild animals. They call it Saw Palmetto in the United States and Serenoa as a tribute to the American botanist Sereno Watson. The extract from its fruit helps to promote prostate function, drains of body liquids, and improves urinary tract function.
