Ginger

Ginger (Zingiber officinale) is a herbaceous plant from the Zinziberaceae family (that also includes Cardamom). It is a Far East native and is widely cultivated in tropical and and sub-tropical regions. It has a fleshy rhizome and dense branches, lance-shaped leaves, greenish-yellow flowers with scarlet spots. The rhizome, which is the root, contains the characterizing elements of the plant; it is used to aid digestive function, regulate gastrointestinal motility, treat nausea, and eliminate gas.
