Milk Thistle

Milk Thistle (Silybum marianum) is a biennial herbaceous plant that belongs to the Asteraceae family. It is found throughout the Mediterranean area. The name 'marianum' (from "Mary") probably comes from a legend that says that the white spots  found on the leaves are drops of milk falling from the breast of the Virgin Mary while nursing baby Jesus. It has appeared in the herbaria since the Middle Ages because of its various healing properties.
This medicinal plant helps treat liver disorders thanks to an active ingredient called silymarin, which stimulates the regeneration of liver tissues.
It improves digestive function, liver function and purifies the body. It has antioxidant properties and keeps carbohydrate metabolism on track.
