Sweet Clover

Sweet Clover (Melilotus officinalis L.) is a plant that belongs to the Fabaceae (or Leguminosae) family. The name comes fromd the Greek word "méli", which means honey, and "lotus", because the flower that is sought out by bees due to its high pollen content. It’s an annual or biennial herbaceous plant with deep roots and very few branches. It is found in fallow fields, along roads and on the edge of waterways. Its stem can reach up to a meter and a half in height. Its leaves are oval or elliptical shaped and the flowers are bright yellow, with a strong scent. Sweet clover is used in herbal medicine because it supports vein circulation and microcirculation and drains excess body liquids. If applied directly to skin, it soothes and reduces redness.
