Dog Rose

Dog Rose (Rosa canina L.) belongs to the Rosaceae family and is a thorny shrub that grows from 100 to 300 centimeters in height and has woody stems and deep roots. It has red plugs  that are robust and elongated. It is the most common wild rose species in Italy, and can usually be found in hedges and on the edges of the woods. This plant owes its name "Dog" (canine) to Pliny the Elder, who claimed that a Roman soldier was cured from rabies thanks to a decoction made with its roots. It’s used in herbal medicine because it contains high quantities of Vitamin C. It’s both supportive and restorative and regulates intestinal transit.
