Lutein

Lutein is a carotenoid, a natural substance that belongs to the xanthophylls family, which are natural fat-soluble pigments that are found in many foods such as: spinach, corn, and Brussels sprouts. Beta-carotene belongs to the same group. The main source of Lutein that is used in supplements comes from Tagetes Erecta flowers, which are mostly grown for that specific reason. In fact, humans are not able to synthesize Lutein and so it must be taken orally. Once ingested, this substance concentrates itself in the macula, that is, in the middle of the eye retina.
