Cinnamon

Cinnamon (Cinnamomum verum) is an evergreen tree that belongs to the Lauraceae family. It’s native to Sri Lanka. Cinnamon spice, famous all over the world, is extracted from the homonymous tree. It has a dry and pungent peppery aroma that is similar to clove. The spice doesn’t come from the seeds or fruits but rather from the stem and twigs, which, once processed and treated, look like small rolls of brown parchment paper. It’s been used in herbal medicine for ages because it eliminates intestinal gas and regulates bowel movements. It’s also antioxidant and helps metabolize carbohydrates.
