Carnitine

Carnitine is a carboxylic acid that is found in animal tissues and in plants in small quantities. The human body can synthesize carnitine in the liver from two amino acids, Lysine and Methionine. This molecule is in the plasma membrane of skeletal muscles, heart, in the kidneys and in the intestine. Some physical dysfunctions can lead to carnitine deficiency. It gets involved in mitochondria metabolic processes: it promotes energy production for the cells and sends fatty acids to the sites where they can be metabolized.
